dex software package provides generate and execute Application type .desktop files, you can install in your Ubuntu 17.04 (Zesty Zapus) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install dex
dex is installed in your system.
Make ensure the dex package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep dex *
You will get with dex package name, version, architecture and description in a table
